Flash is an amazing program, and I never cease to be amazed with the work people can create in it. In this particular video, the animator speed paints Luigi and Mario getting in some kind of terrible **EDIT** KIRBY trouble. Thought it was a BOO =P The art style is really fresh, definitely unique. And you can jam out to the awesome remix of the Mario Castle song.
Are any of you artists? I’m really interested in the process of drawing/ creating something like this. Do you just see in your head? As much as I love the CG style that most games have, I really miss 2D animation in games, because it’s always so unique. Imagine a game with this art style! It would be pretty sweet. Many props to Sal Iovine for his fantastic art!
That’s right, the main character, head honcho… I don’t know what developers are thinking sometimes. Ideally, they want you to identify with the character (or at least make you want to BE them) but sometimes they’re so far off base, I’m not even sure what the hell they were thinking, or who they had in mind when they were designing these characters.
Being annoying isn’t necessarily a BAD thing… TMZ is annoying, but admit it… You’ve seen it. You can identify that dude that’s also some sort of lawyer or something. You know, from People’s Court. Then there’s that one long haired blond dude that is like, totally out of place there. He should be surfing. God help you if you know who I am talking about.
Now this is a tough one for me… Squall from FF8 almost got my vote, But I am going to have to go with Frank West of Dead Rising. Everything about that guy pisses me off. And that whole game too, in fact. Why is it so fucking HARD!? And why is he such a prick? Stupid Johnny Knoxville lookalike. Also… I hate the way he runs. I would never want to be him, nor play as him, because I felt like an immense douche the whole time. He didn’t really seem interested in what was going on, and come on- he’s a photographer. AUTOMATIC SUSPICIOUS POINTS (kidding kidding!) (or am I?)
All right, let’s hear it. Who annoyed you and why? Let’s give those developers some help here.
I haven’t yet trekked through Uncharted, which I really need to do. But I was taking a peak at the new footage from the 2nd game, because it’s simply gorgeous! And speaking of gorgeous… I have a problem with Nathan Drake. He’s just a little too handsome. Perhaps the game’s title is alluding to the fact that his hotness is indeed… Uncharted.
I would like to see more of him. I’ve heard so many good things about the game, and he has a kick ass name. And the sequel looks amazing. So does his butt. I MEAN…. Graphics.
What the heck are you guys doin reading a blog?? Go spend some time with yer pops… No, not CORN Pops, your dads! And tell em Sadie sent ya… =P
I’ll keep it short, since I’m following my own advice!
My good friend Ross of GamerTonight.net will be in the States in 10 DAYS!!!!!! Hooray! So be sure to look for us at Anime Expo in Los Angeles! I will be there on Saturday, Ross will be there all 4 days though. But only look for him on Saturday when I’m hanging out with him, cause otherwise he sucks.
Ross:Tell them how amazing I am. And that they should check out my site and then plug me several more times in the same post. In fact, Just make the entire post about me
(yes, he actually said this)
Riiiight.
Anyways, enjoy your Sunday! Is anyone goin to Anime Expo?
I have done some voicework for Machinima.com once again and also another snippet for Storm of Destructoid. In “High Score High” I play Zorra Plumb, and also Azel, the MMO character, although for some reason there’s a line of hers done by someone else. It’s a pilot, so I suppose they just got something mixed up. =P But High Score High is by the very talented AnonymousKind, whom I have worked with a lot! He’s awesome. And as for Storm… oh, those crazy ideas of his.
All right, now its time to go over what the hell is going on with Metal Gear… What’s this about RAIDEN being a star!? AGAIN!? Sure, its cyborg ninja Raiden, but… I don’t know, they don’t give him enough character to make me want to play as him for a whole game. I hope they give him more depth and put some emotion into him this time around. As it were, seems the predictions made in the Metal Gear Cast Improv are all coming to fruition… MWAHAHAHA. Metal Gear 5: Otacon is the next announcement, I’m quite sure.
How many more games are they going to slap Metal Gear on? I don’t understand the need for spin offs and side stories. I’m just hoping that they put effort into Peace Walker, and Rising, and not create a hollowed out shell of a game. As a side note, I did play MGS Touch at E3, and that was a piece of garbage. Who would play that after playing a real MGS game, I have no idea. You just shoot at the enemies, and the aiming system is just terrible. I don’t know what the motivation is. Graphics look nice, but that was about it. It was boring, and I would have had more fun playing a game where Snake is trying to put a flaming bag of dog poo on Liquid’s doorstep. “BROTHAAAAAAAAAA”
I’ll keep my thoughts totally flexible though, because hopefully they’ll exceed expectations and keep pushing the bar in terms of gameplay and story.
And here’s hoping for the new iPhone MGS game with flaming bags of doody. I would play that.
I wanted to inform everyone that I am currently searching for a new place to host the blog, so everyone can stop getting the cursed “ENTER” white screen of death.
I’m doing well, for those that may be worried. FRET NOT! I will begin updating the blog daily again (or very nearly). Thanks again to all the VERY SUPPORTIVE fans. =)
I recently purchased the No More Heroes soundtrack in preparation for the epic Wii game that will be No More Heroes 2. Its an AMAZING SOUNDTRACK! And I think Masafumi Takada is a fantastic composer.
I had the oppurtunity to attend E3 on Thursday, and what a day that was! I started my trip off with a visit to the ever impressive Nintendo booth. They seem to always go for the biggest possible set up. There was a nice selection of games, with the exception of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, a “re-imagining” of the first game. WHY CAN’T THEY JUST LEAVE A GAME BE! There’s no need to remake EVERY FREAKING GAME. And in this case… I can definitely say this one could be done without. It was frustrating and definitely made the franchise feel cheap.
I also had a chance to play… LEFT 4 DEAD 2! What a game! I’m definitely looking forward to it. I just hope they add more, cause right now it seems like Left 4 Dead… But hey, we threw in a coupla new things.
Bayonetta was definitely my pick of the demos I played. It’s absolutely gorgeous on the 360! The voice acting and style in general are interesting, and the gameplay was lots of button mashing fun. It is vaguely reminiscent of DMC, but I think it stands apart pretty well. In fact, I’m SO excited, I had to take a picture with the Bayonetta model.
God of War 3 was just that- God of War 2 with better graphics. The gameplay has some additions, and it certainly looks good. And I’ll definitely play it! Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke. =) Kratos is as manly as ever, which is always a plus.
After that I checked out the demo for Guitar Hero 5… They have added a lot of new features, which look impressive! Being able to drop in and out, changing instruments… Basically catering it to really flaky band members/ friends.
I also had the chance to meet up with my good pal Storm who was doing coverage for Destructoid. Look out for his “inflatable Wii remote knockoff” shaningans.
So those are the highlights from my E3 trip! What news were you guys most excited about? And don’t even get me started on the Metal Gear news… Or the No More Heroes news… Those are blog posts for another day!!!!
A lot of people seem to be asking “WHY” and to that I can only say that my personal life has always been just that- personal! If you want to know the details of someone’s life, I’d recommend checking blogs (or tabloids) because I have made it abundantly clear in the FAQ vids that my life outside of SGI is “none of anyone’s fucking business.” =P
BUT ANYWAY!
Yes I’m alive and well, and all that business. =) Hope everyone has a ROCKIN weekend!
This video deserves waaaay more than 52k views! It’s really well made, and totally adorable. But then again, anything involving sack boys is destined to be irresistibly cute! They should make a horror movie about them. Now wouldn’t that be scary? What is about cute things that also makes them terrifying? WEIRD! But anyways… This video rocks and I demand more creative integrations of video games and life.
That’s right, yet another kick ass gaming event (literally!). From April 25, 2009 - May 11, 2009, there was a Street Fighter Tribute art show at Nuclues, a gallery in Alhambra, from the same people that brought you I am 8 Bit, one of whom I have interviewed! You can see my interview with Mr. Job Gibson in the Resident Evil 5 Blood Drive video. I’m totally BUMMED that I didn’t get to attend! But that’s ok. Cause I can still check out all the pics from what LOOKS LIKE an awesome opening night.
Again, this is a gallery of artistic interpretations of beloved Street Fighter characters. You can check out the gallery here. These were some of my favorites:
Really, all of Rodney Fuentebella’s work is stunning. Those would be the last three shown here. =3
You can also check out the pics of the opening night here! You’ll spot Rina-chan as a female Sagat, and also a few familiar faces from the Street Fighter 4 launch party, including the El Fuego cosplayer Noah that I interviewed!
I know a lot of you live outside of California, but if you did live here, would you be excited to attend these events? How do you feel about video game art?
